Farm News
As September unfolds, our farm undergoes a subtle transformation. While stores rush to declare autumn's arrival in August, we experience a gentler shift here at Prairie Fruits Farm & Creamery.
Lately, I find myself rising in darkness to prepare for Saturday’s farmers markets. When I peek in on the early morning milking, the goats seem a bit drowsier now, needing a few extra moments to shake off sleep. All around us, nature whispers of change: grass slowly fades to brown, leaves drift earthward, and our once-bustling garden winds down its production. Even the goats' milk is changing, a sure sign that we've crested summer's peak and are now coasting towards winter.
This transition brings a cozy excitement to our Farm to Table offerings. Next week, we're diving into Oktoberfest spirit with hearty Golabki and Spätzel, complemented by a selection of local Oktoberfest beers over four festive days.
Looking ahead, we've got some thrilling themes lined up for October:
- National Vegetarian Day (Oct 2-3): A bountiful Vegetarian Feast
- Indigenous Peoples Celebration (Oct 9-10 & 16-17)
- Halloween with a Beetlejuice twist (Oct 23-24 & 30-31)
You can find tickets available now on our website.

As we bid farewell to summer's vibrant greens and early morning light, there's a sense of anticipation in the crisp air. Another season unfolds, bringing its own unique charm to our little corner of the prairie. We hope you'll join us in savoring these fleeting moments of change.
The lawn adjacent to the pavilion is set up for guests to hang out and play games. There's a nice breeze under the shade of the pavilion OR you can enjoy the farm's fare in our air-conditioned dining room/café "Caprae." Crisp September evenings are perfect for enjoying a cheese and pickle plate while watching the sunset. Our small bites and bar snacks menus are simply delicious, and folks are beginning to discover the amazing food that our chefs are crafting. Sunday brunch specials change weekly-the word on the "street" is that we have the best brunch in town! Follow our Caprae Restaurant on Facebook and Instagram and come visit us!

We are sharing space with Central Illinois Bakehouse at the Bloomington Market. We will have cheese available at the CIB booth at the downtown Champaign (Tuesday) and Springfield Thursday (Fairgrounds) market as well.
