About the event

Bonnie’s Baskets: “Porch Basket” Workshop

April 12, 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM

$75 per person

Create a beautiful handmade Porch Basket in this hands-on weaving workshop led by Bonnie Rideout of Bonnie’s Baskets. This charming and functional basket features a woven filled base, a sturdy D-handle, and an adorable embellishment of squirrels playing on a fence—perfect for display or everyday use.

The finished basket measures approximately 8" H x 7¼" W x 13½" L (not including the handle) and is woven with a 7" x 17" D handle. While the example basket shown is stained, participants will complete their baskets unstained and will learn staining techniques during the workshop.

What You'll Do

During this hands-on class, Bonnie will guide you step-by-step through building your basket from the base up. You'll learn how to set up and weave a filled base, shape the basket, and incorporate decorative finishing techniques.

By the end of the workshop, you'll leave with a finished basket and new weaving skills you can use in future basket projects.

You'll Learn:

  • How to set up and weave a woven filled basket base

  • The “chicken feet” method for tucking spokes

  • Twining techniques

  • Basket shaping techniques

  • Working with a D-handle structure

  • Basket staining techniques and finishing tips

About Your Instructor

Bonnie Rideout wove her first basket in 1994 and quickly became hooked. What began as a passion grew into a full-time career when she launched Bonnie’s Baskets in 2006. As her business expanded, Bonnie built a dedicated workshop on her property and began designing her own basket patterns.

In 2018, she left her “regular” job to focus on Bonnie’s Baskets full-time. Bonnie has taught basketry in 18 states and continues to travel and share her craft with basket makers across the country.
