Master the art of cake decorating over three progressive evenings on
This three-week series takes you from foundational skills to creating stunning buttercream flower arrangements. Each class builds on the previous one, giving you the confidence and techniques to decorate beautiful cakes for any occasion. Taught by Ashley Harmon of Sugared in Champaign, you'll learn professional methods in a supportive, hands-on environment.

$90 per person per class.
Class 1: Cake Decorating Basics | Sunday, March 15
Perfect for beginners or anyone wanting to strengthen foundational skills. You'll learn:
How to prepare and level a cake for decorating
Techniques for applying a smooth, clean frosting coat
How to use piping bags and tips with confidence
Easy decorative elements to give any cake a polished look
By the end of class, you'll have a neatly frosted practice cake and the essential skills needed to move on to more advanced techniques.
Class 2: Intermediate Decorating & Writing Techniques | Monday, March 23

Now that the basics are mastered, you'll dive deeper into creative and detailed design work.
You'll learn:
Piping techniques for more elaborate borders and textures
Methods for clean, consistent writing on cakes
Creating simple shapes, patterns, and themed designs
How to combine techniques to elevate the overall look of a cake
You'll leave this session confident in adding personalized messages and decorative flair to your cakes.
Class 3: Buttercream Flowers & Cupcake Bouquet Design | Thursday, April 2

A beautiful, spring-themed finale focused on artistry, color, and presentation. You'll learn:
How to mix and color buttercream for realistic floral effects
Techniques to pipe buttercream roses, tulips, daisies, and more
How to arrange piped flowers onto cupcakes
How to assemble a cupcake flower bouquet—perfect for Easter tables, gifts, or special occasions
By the end of class, you'll have a stunning, photo-worthy cupcake bouquet to take home.

Ashley Harmon is the baker behind Sugared in Champaign, a local cottage bakery creating custom treats from scratch. Her passion for cake decorating and commitment to teaching proper technique make her classes both accessible and rewarding. Ashley brings professional baking expertise to home bakers, breaking down complex processes into achievable steps.
