Have you ever wanted to learn woodcarving but didn’t know where to start? In this beginner-friendly workshop, you’ll be introduced to the art of whittling while creating a small, palm-sized wooden bird, often called a “comfort bird.” Simple, smooth, and satisfying to hold, these carvings are both meaningful and approachable for first-time carvers.

This class offers a relaxed, supportive environment where you can slow down, work with your hands, and enjoy the process of shaping wood into something beautiful.

What You'll Do

You’ll begin by learning the fundamentals of safe knife handling and basic carving techniques. With step-by-step guidance, you’ll practice essential cuts before moving on to shaping your own comfort bird.

As you work, you’ll gain confidence using carving tools and develop an understanding of how to bring form and smoothness to your piece. By the end of class, you’ll have completed your first carving and be ready to continue exploring the craft.
