Art at the Farm: Sashiko – Meditation on a Simple Stitch

April 19, 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Experience the quiet beauty of sashiko, the traditional Japanese stitching technique, in this calming hands-on workshop led by artist Sara Jones. In this beginner-friendly class, you’ll explore simple yet elegant stitch patterns while creating a sampler that highlights the meditative rhythm of sashiko embroidery.

Sashiko, originally developed as a practical method for reinforcing and repairing clothing, has evolved into a celebrated decorative textile art. This workshop offers a peaceful environment where you can slow down, focus on the repetitive rhythm of stitching, and create something both beautiful and meaningful.

What You'll Do

In this hands-on workshop, you’ll choose from several sashiko stitch patterns and begin creating your own sampler using traditional sashiko thread and fabric. Sara will guide you through the process step-by-step, demonstrating how to mark patterns and execute the distinctive running stitches that define sashiko.

Most of the class will be spent in the calming, focused process of stitching your sampler.
