About the event

Kokedama Workshop

Experience Level: Beginner

Explore the Japanese art of kokedama on Saturday, March 21 from 3:00 to 5:00 PM

Transform plants into sculptural moss-wrapped living displays in this hands-on workshop. Inspired by the Japanese tradition of Hanami—celebrating seasonal blossoms and nature—this experience invites you to slow down, connect with plants, and create something living and beautiful for your home.

$80 per person. Early bird: $75 if purchased by February 28.

What You'll Create

You'll build your own kokedama from start to finish, learning wrapping techniques, styling ideas, and plant-care tips to help your creation thrive long after the workshop. Choose from an assortment of plants provided, or bring a plant you already feel connected to (though a plant is fully included).

Kokedama can be displayed hanging, on a decorative dish, pedestal, or tray—transforming any space with natural beauty.

What You'll Learn

  • Traditional Japanese kokedama wrapping techniques

  • How to select and prepare plants for moss ball design

  • Soil composition for healthy kokedama

  • Styling and display options

  • Long-term care and maintenance

  • Incorporating biophilic design into your home

This workshop is slightly messy and hands-on. Wear comfortable clothes you don't mind getting dirty. Bringing an apron is encouraged. Gloves will be available for anyone who prefers extra hand protection.

Optional Display Items

You may bring a decorative item for display, such as:

  • Hanging chain or plant hanger

  • Decorative dish or bowl

  • Candlestick or pedestal stand

  • Tray or small display base

Display pieces will also be available for purchase on-site.
