Goats for Sale

The 2013 Season

Grace

GENERAL INFORMATION

We have been raising dairy goats since 2004.  Our herd is certified "Animal Welfare Approved,"  the gold standard in pasture based livestock production certification programs. Over the years, we have made significant improvements in the genetics of herd, focusing on overall soundness and solid conformation, along with high milk components and longevity. Several of our sold doelings have placed in the tops of their classes at county fairs around the state. Our goals for the herd are to keep improving overall health, longevity, duration of lactation and milk components.

All of our does and bucks are registered through ADGA, and we will complete the paperwork for you so you can register their offspring, should you choose. We have tested our entire herd for CAE, CL and Johnes (CAE every fall, Johnes in fall 2010, CL in 2012). All have tested negative for all three diseases since we started our commercial operation in 2005.  We are now a closed herd.

Our kidding season runs early March through mid May.  While we retain about 15-25 doelings for replacements each year, we sell many of our doe kids as well as a few breeding buck kids.  We have full blood Nubians and La Mancha as well as Nubian X La Mancha crosses (anything from 50% of each breed to 7/8 either Nubian or La Mancha. Crosses can be registered as "Experimental Grade" through the American Dairy Goat Association (ADGA).  We have good milk records (DHI) for 2007-12 for all dams, and you can view these records by dam at the adga website: www.adga.org/

KID CARE PRACTICES

Our kids are separated from their dams at birth. We feed them their mothers' colostrum within the first 12 hours after birth and their mothers' milk for 3-4 days.  They are then fed kid milk replacer using an automated self feeder (Lac Tec).  This ensures that they have access to warm milk whenever they want it. This practice has resulted in faster growing kids with fewer health problems and higher weight gains pre-weaning. We offer them pure alfalfa hay at 5 days old and a specially formulated grain ration at 2 weeks old. We wean our kids between 6 to 8 weeks of age, depending on their weight gain and reliance on hay and grain.

NEW PRICING THIS YEAR: Our pricing has increased to be more in line with the market for registered dairy goats and to reflect our operating expenses. Our baseline prices for the 2013 season are as follows: Purebred or "American" doe kids purchased before they are weaned are $150 each.  Weaned doe kids are $225 each.   DOE KIDS FROM OUR TOP 10 MILK PRODUCERS GROUP WILL BE SOLD AT A PREMIUM OF AN ADDITIONAL $50. This premium reflects total milk production, milk components and Linear Appraisal scores from 2010.

We retain only breeding bucklings from our top producing dams who we know have potential to improve herd genetics.  Breeding bucklings purchased before they are weaned sell for $150 each.  Weaned breeding bucklings cost $300.  WE ARE NOW TAKING RESERVATIONS FOR BREEDING BUCKLINGS THROUGH THE END OF APRIL. WE ALSO HAVE ONE LA MANCHA YEARLING BREEDING BUCKLING FOR SALE. Please email us to reserve a Nubian or La Mancha buck.

We will also  be selling a limited number of milking does-priced at $225 each. Please inquire about the status of availability.

We require a deposit of $75 per head to reserve a doeling, buckling or milking doe.

If you require health papers to take goats out of state, please let us know. We require the buyer to pick up any additional costs for health certificates.  We do have scrappie tags available.
