Places to Stay
We often have dinner guests coming from out of town looking for places to stay before or after the farm dinner. Several of our out-of-town guests have recommended a couple of bed and breakfast establishments.
Sylvia's Irish Inn in Urbana is lovely restored Victorian house. Here is a review from one of our recent dinner guests:
We very much enjoyed our stay at Sylvia’s Irish Inn. The building itself is a very nice historic Victorian style. The proprietors – Sylvia and Ernie – create a very nice, informal atmosphere. The food was very good – albeit not local, organic and biodynamic. I guess when comparing food to other mass production food models it is very good. It does not hold a candle to the farm dinner, but I personally would not expect it to rival the best meal that I eat every year. One thing that someone should be aware of prior to booking a room is that there are shared bathrooms, which I found clean and convenient - some rooms may have private baths. Overall, I enjoyed my stay, and it will be my first choice when I am in town.
If you're looking for something more rustic, a few of our guests have stayed at Timber Creek Bed and Breakfast in Paxton. It is located about 20 miles north of our farm, just off Interstate 57. Our guests commented on the peaceful nature of the property, the cleanliness of the rooms and the hearty breakfast served.
If you're just wanting a place to lay your head after a night of feasting, there are several hotels located about 2 miles south of our farm just off N. Lincoln Avenue including:
